June 2011 - Lindsey was announced as winner of the US Congressional Art Competition.-
June 2012 - She won it again!
Our daughter Lindsey has always excelled at arts and crafts. This past year her high school art teacher asked her to take a painting class, and well, it turns out she’s pretty good at it In January she painted her first watercolor and it was good - but she decided to paint a second and try to win the Congressional Art Competition - well she succeeded.
On June 22, Lindsey and Kathy got free flights to go to the award ceremony, where they got breakfast in the Capitol, an art seminar, and a private tour by Andre Carson’s staff. Andre met Lindsey between his busy schedule of meetings, and he gave her some nice compliments on the painting - apparently he selected it as the winner himself. Our family has some pretty good art “genes”, so maybe Lindsey can follow in her ancestors’ footsteps.
If any of you make it to Washington DC in the next year - visit her painting which is hanging in the US Capitol Building. Thanks to US Rep. Andre Carson, his staff, Southwest Airlines, Mrs. Schaeffer at Lawrence Central High school and everyone else who made the day special.

June 2012 Lindsey submitted another painting and through a blind selection, won the competition for a second time. So she went back to Washington with her new painting: Boats by Lindsey.
This painting was made into a nice wooden puzzle by Liberty Puzzles - as of 2021 I’m no longer seeing it on their website, but I see them for sale used from time to time.
