Hawaii
We went to Hawaii in January 2006 to see the whales, relax and have fun. We stayed at the Marriott Wailea on Maui, which was great.
One night we went to a Luau:
Of course the kids tried out the hot tub:
Audrey found this flower laying on the sidewalk after the landscapers trimmed the bushes and put it in her hair. Doesn’t look too bad!
Believe it or not, this was the view from our hotel room balcony:
We made the obligatory trip to the top of Haleakala for the sunrise - Kathy and I had made the trip a few years ago and couldn’t see a thing. This time the sky was clear, but it was cold:
This is one of the lava caves near Hana:
I rented a plane from Maui Aviators - ask for Paul - and flew around Maui and then over to Molokai. This is taken at the airport at Kaulaupapa, which was where the infamous Leper colony existed. Leprosy (now called Hanson’s disease) is now completely under control, but there are still a few remaining residents of the colony living out their years. I read a good book on it after I returned called The Colony.
Notice the wind sock standing straight out. It’s not easy to fly in Hawaii.
